What Have You Been Avoiding?

This is really about what it feels like to be disconnected from yourself

There’s a strange thing I’ve noticed, in almost everyone I sit with. We only go looking for stillness when things fall apart. Nobody reaches for a meditation practice on their best day. We reach for it when the relationship ends, when we’re rejected, when something hurts too much to keep pushing through.

And the rest of the time, we push the hard feelings out the door before they’ve even had a chance to sit down.

I think that’s what disconnection from yourself actually is. Not something broken in you. Just years of not letting yourself feel what you actually felt.

A feeling you never fully lived doesn’t disappear. It waits. And it comes back, again and again, asking for the attention you never gave it the first time.

In this video, I talk about what it means to stop running from what comes up in you, and a simple way to sit with it instead of managing it, fixing it, or scrolling it away.

Here’s something you can try right now, while you’re reading this.

Feel your feet on the ground.

Notice your breath. Don’t change it. Just notice it.

And instead of asking yourself what you should do next, ask something different.

What’s actually happening in me, right now?

Whatever comes up, don’t explain it and don’t fix it. Just let yourself feel it, fully, for a moment.

That’s it. That’s the whole practice.

If this lands for you, I’d love to know: what have you been avoiding?
